Before founding Stonegate, Aaron Schossau had a brief career as a professional musician, forming the rock band Bliss 66 in the late 1990s and staying with the band until late 2002.

Coming out of Taylor, Michigan, Bliss 66 was composed of friends from a church youth group. The original band members were Aaron Schossau (guitar), Cheyenne Goff (vocals), Rob Harbin (guitar/vocals), Don Patty (bass), Jordan Barnet (keyboards/vocals), and Bob Cook (drums). Bliss 66 was known for its passionate hard rock music and sensuous melodies.

The group was first recruited by prominent music producer Glenn Ballard for their song Not Quite Paradise, which was used for the soundtrack of Titan A.E., a 2000 science fiction film. Ballard was also the producer of Bliss 66’s debut album Trip to the 13th, released in June 2001. The album produced 3 top 40 Billboard hits. The band also began touring in 2001.
